In November 2024, the Digital Dimensions of Nature Recovery Conference at Jesus College brought together an inspiring mix of voices to explore how digital technologies can tackle some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time. Co-funded by the Agile Initiative, the two-day conference fostered vibrant discussions, meaningful connections, and exciting ideas for the future of nature recovery.
A sold-out event, including academics, policymakers, conservationists, and artists, the conference didn’t just stay within the boundaries of academia. It reached beyond Oxford to include voices from across the UK and beyond, sparking conversations that bridged disciplines and perspectives. From AI in conservation to digital storytelling for biodiversity, each panel dived into how technology can support (or complicate!) efforts to protect our natural world.
The Agile Evening Reception allowed attendees to break out of formal settings, enjoy some canapés, and dive deeper into potential collaborations. This informal setting proved invaluable, providing time and space for catalysing ideas that will shape future research and practical applications.
It’s not just about ideas, though. This conference was action-oriented, with participants already discussing joint projects, and even a publication in the works for the British Ecological Society’s People and Nature journal. By connecting innovative thinkers and practitioners, the event embodied the Agile Initiative’s mission to push for interdisciplinary, solutions-focused approaches to environmental challenges.
